I'm doing Video
For so long I've held out on doing video podcasts but life is short and so is people's attention spans
I cracked and caved. Wear Many Hats is going video. Doing audio podcasts have been fun but I do enjoy seeing what our guests have as their background. I enjoy seeing what people show off in their spaces. What furniture is in their home or office? Are there records, books, in the room with us? I appreciate all of the Wear Many Hats guests for letting me into their home virtually.
For our first guest that we release video is with one of my favorite bands, Sextile. The band is based in Los Angeles but before that, they were in New York City. I thought this would be a special episode to have them on and introduce video because why not. Insanely great band to listen to on the go, in your house alone or a house party. The number one thing for me is that their trajectory should be studied. One of the best bands to transition from different genres and their previous act was sick as well.
Why not have video? Where Sextile members, Brady Keehn & Melissa Scaduto, have one of the most striking fits, hair, flair, and the best part is that they just woke up.
Every time I watch Sextile perform live, I see that they’re always wearing sunglasses. Thought I would do the same and wear them in the beginning to make everyone comfortable. Though I was blind as a bat and so was Crassy Mel.
Running a podcast is quite easy when you do a couple episodes via audio. I have made the switch from using Zoom recording to Riverside.fm and I’m not sure why I didn’t do it earlier. Zoom recording sucks. Always cracked out audio and was the arch nemesis to the now defunct Skype. I get why Zoom popped off during the pandemic in a corporate office space but let’s face it, it has a lot of work to do.
Riverside.fm recording gets the job done using AI tools but it’s expensive as hell. I met the Riverside.fm founders in London for The Podcast Show a couple years back but wasn’t convinced to make the switch. Finally my Zoom account has ran its course on its subscription so I got a discount code to use Riverside but it’s not sustainable. If my socials start dramatically change after this, maybe I’ll stick with it after the first year. The chop and edits on Riverside are terrible and I still bring the audio to Adobe Audition to edit. The video recording is not bad and their audio recording is crispy when you use their AI editing but I’ll update you after a year.
Real reason why I made the switch to video:
I was starting to fall out of love with Wear Many Hats. Simple as that.
I’ve had this feeling before 5-6 years ago with my studio, Dahsar.
You’re learn more about why I made these moves in our episode coming up next week with John Liu (congrats John on launching pre-orders for KiuKiu, Mochi Pancake & Waffle Mixes) but I simply put it to him that my projects are based around transitioning within the art form or practice.
Putting out audio wasn’t exciting so now I wanted to see how my dopamine hits with video. So far I find it exciting and encouraging.
When things are stagnant, I feel the need to start a riot.
Do you think people are forced to put out video too? Based on social media and screens?
Listen to the new Sextile album yes, please.
