I’ve been hosting friends on our couch where I’ve learned that they haven’t been laid off or dropping out of life. Our friends have been traveling and working full time in the USA but the caveat is that they don’t have a permanent residence. I was at my friend’s new place in Bedstuy, Brooklyn where she remodeled the house and decided to have a house warming coincide with her birthday. The first person I met at the party was her mom. We chatted for quite sometime and told me about her friends that weren’t traveling but have been crashing homes while having full time jobs. Well me too sister. We’ve been hosting friends that have freelance design gigs and pull Wag and Trusted House Sitters shifts, to tell themselves they ain’t better than us service peasants. Moms and I were trying to figure out what these types of people are called and she coined the new term: Anchorless.
A new type of house crashers. A weird interesting take these people do is call themselves homeless. I’m not for using the term unhoused or homeless but these carefully curated and responsible people living in their cars is either in a period of crash out or mini crisis.
To be anchorless, it must be exhausting. A lot of asks must happen along the way. Calling in the favors and hitting up your networks to sleep around. Could it or couldn’t be me? When I go on vacation I love hitting up my friends to see if I can crash. Only because I want to spend time with the homie. I know I won’t see you for another 8+ months. If that’s the case, let me make you brunch in your own apartment.
I remember when Van life was the talk of the time and everyone was raving about On The Road Home with Devon Ojas & Kas Maria. I would love to travel this beautiful country. I would need to get over it’s brokenness. Roll the dice and accept what this is country is. Bound for unexpected surprises.
Must be fortunate enough to get to this level. To bop around with no plan except for having constant remote work. A privilege. When we did the Wear Many Hats World Tour Asia Edition, everyone asked if we were traveling or working. Fair question but a question I’m over hearing since I can’t answer it anymore since it’s blending into one. I got my camera out, creating what people call content. I create for memories. There is no bankroll coming in. We create for the sake of creating. There isn’t a plan for this. I get all these ideas from my parents. We restart the Wear Many Hats World Tour in Bali next week. My parents are on a retirement tour right now. In Bali.
America right now is doing what Snaxshot uses the term yassification on certain things to revive old Americana. The latest is with Maggie’s, bringing shoppy shops to gas stations. In Texas, the Roadside Revival is happening with the rebirth of motels with Hotel Lucine. If I had bankroll coming in, I would love to do a cross country roadtrip just to visit Motels around the country. We’re going back to the past and we’re bringing the future with us.
I want to create a hotel & membership club in the future. I already have a name for it called The Dahsar, with a cafe called Dahsar’s named after our studio and a wellness+spa named after our food and beverage arm, Matsar. I want it to be a spot people will stop by. Will it be in the USA? Probably not. I think Malaysia would be it. This is obviously a dream. Would it happen? You tell me.
Friends be crashing at the crib doing what they do best. Crashing. I love crashing. What do I do best? I crash. I do it every year but in a bed. I told myself I wouldn’t do couches anymore. I have to be in a bed because I’m trying to do my best to navigate having no back pain. I have scoliosis you think I can be anchorless? I can’t survive scoliosis by couch surfing. Definitely not from backpacking. Backpackers are so annoying its insane. I recently worked with one and how they made it this far is beyond imaginable. The amount of cutting corners they do, I’m surprised the roof hasn’t collapsed.
Come along with us on the Wear Many Hats World Tour 2025 to see where it takes us next. Will we be anchorless? No. Digital Nomad? Absolutely not. Contributing to society wherever I go. When you’re going to an exotic location, it’s interesting when people ask if you’re going for work or vacation? I’m going to the moon does it look like I’m going on vacation? Bali, Indonesia is clearly not a work spot. Going to be staying at Potato Head. Yes, that’s the name. Shutting off. Thailand, I’m going to send a few fun emails and say what’s up to Boss and bless them with Wear Many Hats ‘Hats’. While in Malaysia, I’m going to pay respects to everyone who believed in me. Friends and family that heard my story and connected me to our matcha farm.
Is it work if you’re having fun? Please see everybody’s trying to figure me out.
